NGC 891

NGC 891, is a spiral galaxy about 30 million light years away from Earth. Its diameter is estimated at 100,000 ly. We can observe it in the constellation of Andromeda, and what is more interesting, the galaxy is so oriented towards Earth that we can see it almost exactly along its edge. The galaxy was discovered by William Herschel in 1784.
