Aqua regia (other names: regal water, king’s water) is a mixture of hydrochloric acid (HCl) and nitric acid (HNO3) in proportions of 3:1 (volume ratio). This liquid has orange color and is highly fuming. The most known feature of a substance is its ability to dissolve metals.
Preparation:
- Pour into clean flask 300 ml of HCl
- Next, add slowly to HCl in flask 100 ml of HNO3
- Mix for 10 minutes (magnetic stirrer)
Keep tightly closed under a fume cupboard or other well-ventilated place. Use only with protective gloves and face protection. This is a seriously dangerous substance
